Acne scarring

Did you know ALL types of acne can scar?  Even comedonal acne like blackheads have the potential to create long lasting marks on your skin, but here’s what you can do about it.

1.       Treat that acne!  Let’s be aggressive in treatment.  The gold standard of treatment is incorporating a solid skincare routine both morning and nighttime.  Need a suggested regimen? See our post here.

2.       Wear your sunscreen.  We’ll never tire of preaching about that sunscreen because it really is that important!  UV light preferentially absorbs in those post-acne marks and can work against your attempts at fading.

3.       Incorporate that retinoid.  Retinoids exfoliate the top layer of skin cells helping to fade dark spots.  They also boost dermal collagen production to help remodel pitted scars over time.  Need help choosing a retinoid?  Look here

4.       Add azelaic acid or niacinamide into your routine to help fade red marks.  Azelaic acid is available via prescription and can be used morning, night, or both.  Niacinamide is available in our MD Essentials Clear Defense Sunscreen and also helps fade both red and brown spots.

5.       Consider in office procedures.  SkinPen Microneedling is a quick and easy in office procedure safe for all skin types.  It has minimal down time compared to more aggressive lasers and puts your body to work for you rebuilding collagen to remodel scarring.

We are always here for you and happy to formulate a personalized treatment plan for your acne or scarring via online consultation!
